Like practically everyone else, I have two main music sources: YouTube and Spotify. Listening to music while working helps me focus, and when I’m feeling down and stressed, it helps me block out negativity. And lately, what I didn’t realize was how much I enjoy the music of The Chainsmokers!
Thanks to Globe, I found out they’re actually coming to Manila on August 19, Friday, to perform live at MOA Concert Grounds! And the telco gives us the chance to win tickets to watch the duo, made up of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall.
Just join Globe’s raffle giveaway that’s as easy as taking a #Selfie! 😉 All you have to do is register to any GoSURF or GoSAKTO promo now up to August 10 and get a chance to win VIP or Lower Box A tickets. Just text GLOBEXCHAINSMOKERS REG (name/address) to 2363.
You’ll earn one raffle entry for every P5 spent on GoSURF or GoSAKTO. If you win, you’ll get a text message with instructions on how to claim your tickets. Registration is free.
Well, just in case we win tickets to watch them, read up on them a little to know what these two gents have been up to and how they made it big. Here are seven bits of trivia:
1. They picked the name “Chainsmokers” just because it seemed clever.
Their name didn’t actually have a historical background or any sentimental meaning for them. They used “Chainsmokers” just because it sounded clever and the domains were open. We bet they didn’t imagine it would get THIS big—448,535,904 views just for one track big, in fact!
2. Soundcloud was the first home of The Chainsmokers.
Before making it big, the Chainsmokers used to upload their tracks on Soundcloud. All they wanted was to express their musical passion and share it with the world.
3. We may have been singing their track “Roses” wrong!
Their biggest track of 2015, “Roses,” was the anthem of every gathering we could think of. But do you honestly and wholeheartedly know the lyrics of that song? I must admit I don’t, but boy do I love the melody and beat! Well, here are some lyrics we may not have been hearing (or singing in the shower) correctly (according to amiright.com):
Misheard Lyrics:
Take it slow, but it’s not typical He already knows my love is fine His heart’s of stone, his hands roam I told him to go, but he took it hard
Original Lyrics:
Taking it slow, but it’s not typical He already knows that my love is fire His heart was a stone, but then his hands roamed I turned him to gold and it took him higher
But my favorite lines are:
Get drunk on the good life, I’ll take you to paradise Say you’ll never let me go
4. The Chainsmokers’ pre-performance ritual: They indulge in drinks, steak, and espresso!
Before getting on stage, some artists do vocal warmups while some sweat it out. This duo, meanwhile, have a few drinks (or a lot in a number of shows) before they turn the stage upside down, or punch each other in the face just to hype the party monsters in them. Alternatives are steak or espressos.
5. These two dudes have NOT known each other very long.
Before all the music, the parties, and the mixing, they were total strangers to each other. According to a telephone interview they had with Up to the Sun, they were just introduced to each other by a friend of a friend. In the same interview, it was mentioned that Drew was mostly into pop tracks, while Alex was the one DJ-ing in New York. After two months of mashing mixes, they found themselves doing more legit tracks together!
6. One’s a bookworm, the other a gameplayer.
When they’re not performing, they have interests that are very far from partying and enjoying the night life: Alex is a bookworm—he loves to read novels. Drew, on the other hand, loves video games—especially “Call of Duty.”
7. They take inspiration from anything and everything.
These hitmakers do not pick and choose the kind of music they produce. As they say, a person borne out of music produces the kind of music that inspires them. They have the passion for the art and this varies from different genres and music types. They wish to continue to evolve as performers and to continue to inspire aspiring musicians.
