Find out WHAT ELSE is in the buffet, if it's SULIT, and what branches are participating.

I know a lot of people who enjoyed KFC’s Breakfast Buffet last year (alam naman nating mahilig tayong mga Pinoy sa buffet), and that includes myself, so I was really excited when word started spreading that this time, KFC is bringing it back as a Waffle Buffet, which will be available from 730AM to 10AM on all weekends from June 13 to July 5, 2015 at selected branches.

I was curious about what they would include, so when KFC sent me two tickets to the buffet along with two drink stubs, I knew I had to try it on the first day, TODAY. I wanted my parents to try it, too, so I gave them my stubs, and I just paid P199 for the breakfast buffet and added P30 for unlimited drinks so I can write about it on my blog.

According to KFC Marketing Director Errol Magdato, they decided to highlight the waffles in this year’s breakfast buffet because “everyone loves to customize their food… We wanted to put a new twist to our A.M. Breakfast Buffet by adding unlimited waffles into the mix. Waffles also go really well with chicken!”

Waffle Station

So, at the buffet (I went to the branch in EDSA Central/Greenfield District), there’s one station exclusively for unlimited waffles and all the toppings you can add: whipped cream, butter, maple syrup, chocolate syrup, mango sauce, strawberry pulp, marshmallows, Choco Crumbs, crushed Oreos, Brownie Crumbs, chocolate chips, and coarse peanuts. Click on the thumbnails to launch the gallery and get a closer look at the dry waffle toppings (last six items).

I enjoyed the create your own waffle station—seriously, you should knock yourself out! My favorite dry topping was the Chocolate Crumbs, which are like clusters of Milo or some powdery chocolate candy. It’s so sinful! Kids will definitely love this part of the buffet, especially with so many waffle toppings.

The staff asked me to name my waffle creation, and I decided to call it the TrixieReyna.com Waffle—because it has everything in it, except nuts and whipped (cream). HAHA!

The waffle itself is soft, tasty, and buttery. The best part: You can add even more butter—as much as you want—from the waffle station.

You can also keep your waffle simple by just putting butter and maple syrup, and enjoying it with the other items on the buffet to counter all the sweet toppings, like scrambled eggs, Chik ’N Cheese Hotdog, and KFC’s Original Recipe Chicken Fillet with A.M. Steak Sauce.

Chicken Fillet with A.M. Steak Sauce

I’m sure you’re happy to know that your favorite KFC chicken is part of the buffet spread—in fillet form but still cooked using the Original Recipe with 11 herbs and spices that you love. It’s served with the lighter tasting, creamy A.M. Steak Sauce, but I prefer to have it with their delicious gravy, so I just asked the waiters for some. Just imagine: All the KFC chicken you can eat within 2.5 hours. ‘Yun pa lang sulit na! Tip: It’s best when warm, of course, so wait for a freshly cooked batch to be put on the buffet tray.

Chik ’N Cheese Hotdog

My other favorite buffet item is the chicken cheese hotdog; I definitely had seconds, even third helpings of it. It’s so cheesy and comes in chunky slices. The cheese would ooze out of each bite of the hotdog. The kid in me was clapping in delight!

Completing the buffet lineup are garlic rice, chicken tocino, and an assortment of pies: ham & cheese, pecan, and chicken. (I’m missing last year’s hashbrowns and arroz caldo; my mom says she misses the Chocolate Pancakes, which she prefers over the waffles.)

Chicken Tocino

Their chicken tocino is cooked well, succulent, and tastes the way it should: with the right balance of sweet and sour flavors. It’s like your favorite tocino, but leaner and I guess healthier. Meatier, too.

I also sampled all of the pies. The chicken pie had a light taste, with a soft flaky crust, peas, carrots, potatoes, and generous chicken bits inside. It’s really packed with filling. Meanwhile, the pecan pie crust is on the crisp side, with the topping nutty and lightly sweet. It’s the most delicious of the three pies, in my opinion. I like how the tasty crust complemented the caramelly taste of the sugared pecan topping.

(Top left: Ham & Cheese Pie; top right: Chicken Pie; middle: Pecan Pie)

The ham & cheese pie has the lightest taste of all, considering its ingredients, and has the softest pie crust. However, it is likewise dense, like the two other pies, which brings me to my caveat: All pies are definitely filling, so go easy on them if you wish to enjoy more of the other items on the buffet, as they charge P100 for leftovers. If you’re wondering about the size, all pies have about the same circumference as a small coke bottle and are around a little less than an inch thick.

Bottomless drinks you can enjoy for the additional P30 are orange juice, iced tea (KFC said it’s supposed to be apple juice, but in the EDSA Central branch I went to this morning they served iced tea), coffee, and hot chocolate. I like their hot chocolate, which is light, sweet, and creamy—perhaps a chocolate mix (it reminded me of Swiss Miss); it’s not super rich, but it’s delightfully belly-warming. I liked their coffee, too: It had a slightly bold, aromatic flavor without the acidic aftertaste.

My buffet verdict:

It’s really sulit at P199! Everything is freshly made and the staff makes sure the trays of food are always filled (they constantly call out warnings to the kitchen when an item is running out). There are attendants on hand, not to control your portions, but to make sure you have what you need (they even encourage you to put more on your plate). You’re sure to walk away full-bellied and satisfied, energized for your day.

And, napansin ko lang: Chicken overload ang breakfast na ‘to! Just think: Chicken fillet, chicken tocino, chicken cheesedog, chicken pie. Hehe.

Since store seats are limited, it’s advised you reserve and buy tickets to the buffet as early as you can at any of the participating KFC stores. Kids between 3ft to 4ft will only pay P99, while kids below 3 feet are free.
