Delicious options and more that you can enjoy for lunch, merienda, dinner, and post-nightout, too!

I love breakfast food, and I can eat it any time of day, even in the wee hours of the morning after a nightout. So, I’m always on the lookout for places that serve all-day breakfast, especially if they happen to be open 24 hours, so I can get my fix post-gimmick. One of the places on my list is Army Navy, which only used to be my go-to place for my favorite cheese quesadilla.

But recently, I discovered that Army Navy served breakfast when my friends and I stumbled into a branch after a Valkyrie nightout, craving for tapsilog. I was pleasantly surprised that Army Navy now offers mouthwatering breakfast offerings, and their Tapsilog is definitely a winner!

But, they recently introduced a new rival of the Tapsilog where I’m concerned (and I’m sure a lot of diners will agree), and that’s their Bacon Breakfast (P140), composed of bacon, egg done sunny side up, and garlic rice, plus longganisa. Bacon lovers, I assure you: They did their bacon perfectly—that is, so sinfully deep fried and crispy! The Army Navy team said people used to just add bacon to their order of breakfast, so the restaurant just went ahead and created a bacon breakfast option on the menu, throwing in the rich, tasty, and savory longganisa to complete your breakfast (or hangover) craving.

Meanwhile, the fried rice had a generous helping of fried garlic chips (like in the Tapsilog). It was so good and flavorful, I couldn’t help but indulge—I don’t normally eat rice, but when I’m served garlic fried rice, especially with that much garlic, I can finish the entire serving! It’s definitely filling, and it satisfies my appetite for delicious breakfast food, any time of day.

Army Navy’s breakfast lineup is great for busy, on-the-go young professionals who can’t be bothered to make breakfast each morning or those looking for deliciously sinful meals post-nightout. But, of course that’s not the only thing diners come here for.

Comfort food items

People used to come to Army Navy only for their first batch of comfort food items: burgers and fries. I can’t get enough of their seasoned Freedom Fries (P75), which are crispy, savory, and slightly spicy thin-cut fries—the thinnest I’ve tried!

Then, Army Navy eventually included Mexican fare that they quickly became known for. It’s my family’s and my go-to place for simple, straight-out delicious Mexican food that satisfies our appetite.

Their Tacos (crunchy and soft) and Burritos are among the crowd favorites, but since I’m not big on tacos (I find them messy to eat, haha, although I indulge once in a while) and burritos (I’m not much of a rice eater, as mentioned), I make a beeline for my Mexican food fave: Quesadillas. Army Navy has several variants of this folded tortilla, most filled with meat, cheese, sautéed onions, and green bell pepper, and toasted and served with salsa, like the Steak Quesadilla (P180) and Chicken Quesadilla (P170). However, my all-time favorite is the Cheese Quesadilla (P110), which is folded toasted tortilla filled with lots of cheese and served with salsa.

Baja Chicken Querida Mia

I’m the type of person who, upon finding her favorite in a restaurant, will order that each visit. In Army Navy, that’s usually the Cheese Quesadilla…until the restaurant introduced its great rival for my affections: the open-faced Quesadilla called Querida Mia (which means “My Dear” or “My Beloved”). It’s like pizza, thin and loaded with savory ingredients and lots of cheese, and comes in several variants: the Querida Mia Plain (P145), Baja (P165), Baja Chicken (P195, which has a strong Mexican flavour and spice), and my hands-down favorite, the Charlie Bravo (P195).

The Charlie Bravo is made up mostly of lots of yummy, gooey cheese and crispy bacon. I think I can dare declare this as my new Army Navy favorite, toppling the Cheese Quesadilla (which is now my second favorite…tied with the Bacon Breakfast).

Another must-try in Army Navy, especially for those craving something heavier, is their Starving Sailor Steak (P240) variant, which is like your Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. It comes in a huge bun stuffed with generous portions of juicy and tasty thinly sliced beef steak topped with Jalapeno-cheese spread, green bell peppers, and caramelized onions (if you’re not big on onions, you may want to request to have it removed—I know some people who do this) in an eight-inch sourdough bread. You get that satisfying flavor and spice with every huge mouthful. There’s also a Chicken (P220) variant, with the same ingredients and chicken slices instead of the beef.

A new addition to the resto’s popular Mexican menu is the Army Navy Nachos (P95). Get it as a side order or enjoy it solo as a snack, which I usually do. It makes sense for them to finally introduce this on the menu because they’ve always offered crunchy Tortilla Chips (P35) and Cheese Dip with Jalapeño (P20) that you can order separately. Now, these two are combined with salsa, minced jalapeños, and ground beef toppings to make a generous serving of great nachos loaded with these delicious ingredients.

I always wash all these dishes down, no matter what I order, with Army Navy’s popular freshly brewed iced tea called Libertea (P65 for regular and P75 for large). It really tastes like fresh tea with lemon—so flavorful and refreshing! (Promo alert: Taco Tuesday—every Tuesday, get free Regular Libertea with every taco order.)

Did you know?

Every Army Navy store is shaped like the Quonset hut, an all-purpose, lightweight building used by the US Navy that can be easily assembled and shipped anywhere. Army Navy’s popular menu items also take their cues from the military. Libertea is the permission given to enlisted personnel who wish to be absent from duty for 48 hours. A brief dispute with France, meanwhile, led the cafeteria inside the United States’ Capitol building to call French fries, “Freedom Fries.”

Army Navy has 65 branches now, which they built in just six years, so you now no longer have to drive all the way to their first branch in Tagaytay for your Army Navy fix (it’s still cool if you want to, of course). You can just head over to the branch nearest you, be it in Bonifacio Global City, Ortigas, or even Boracay, Cebu, and more!
