In my years of hoarding lipsticks, I’ve found that the most flattering shades for my complexion (which is between fair and yellow) are pinks and peaches, ideally pastels. Trendy or not, these shades remain in circulation in my makeup kit.

However, while I want the lipstick shades light, I don’t want them flimsy like gloss. I want my pastel lipsticks to actually deliver solid colors. And that’s what drew me to Maybelline New York’s newest collection of lipsticks from their Color Sensational lip franchise called Rebel Bouquet. These rebellious pastel lipsticks feature the brand’s new Color Bloom Technology, which creates super-saturated pigments that give them a bright, blooming kick.

Charged with honey nectar, Rebel Bouquet lipsticks leave a rich, smooth feel on your lips with every swipe. They come in 11 vibrant shades that include pink, peach, mauve, and even red. The best part is they’re all wearable for various Filipina skin tones. I particularly like the REB03 shade, which is a peachy shade that while dainty, looks flirty and bright. Whether I wear it with a full makeup look or an almost bare face, it gives my lips a pop of color so I never look dull and washed out. I feel it actually makes my entire face bloom.

Wearing REB03 with barely any makeup (hence the shades, haha) and the lipstick manages to bring some flattering color to my face
Want another reason to hoard these rebellious pastel shades? They’re actually trendy now, as they made an appearance on the runways of New York Fashion Week.
My Rebel Bouquet Tips:
1. If your lips dry easily (like mine, gah), you may want to wear a nourishing lip balm under your Rebel Bouquet lipstick, just to make sure it goes on really smoothly and remains flawless longer.
2. Since Rebel Bouquet has strong pigments, you might want to remove it with an oil-based lip scrub (try a natural sugar scrub) to make sure no residue remains on your puckers.
Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bouquet lipsticks are now available at P299 in all Maybelline counters nationwide.
