When I was a teen a loooong time ago, I wanted to wear colored contact lenses. I thought they’d be so much cooler than my glasses (I have astigmatism) and I believed they’d soften my features.
So I convinced my mom to take me to an optical shop and try on colored contacts. After the effort to put them on, it only took a few seconds before my eyes started welling up and the tears just wouldn’t stop. I asked the optometrist to take them off immediately; I never attempted to try on or even buy colored contacts since.

At least until a blogger friend recently introduced me to Air Optix Colors. She asked me if I wanted to try it on, and I told her the story I just shared. She encouraged me to try them because they are more comfortable than the usual contact lenses. Air Optix Colors contacts are made of proprietary silicone hydrogel material which allows plenty of oxygen to pass through the contact lenses, making them great for longer wear.
Air Optix Colors also has a sister brand, FreshLook, which uses the classic hydrogel material that’s great for everyday wear. Both brands are designed to give eyes a beautiful, natural-looking new color, while providing healthy vision and consistent comfort. They are made with a unique, smooth surface and feature a technology that combines three colors in one to blend naturally with the color of your eye.
I went to see her optometrist, who patiently taught me how to put on the contacts and gave me tips on maintenance and how to keep the contact lenses feel comfortable on my eyes during the day. I didn’t tear up at all while wearing these contacts, and after a while, I completely forgot I had them on, until it’s time to take them off—they’re that comfortable. (I still need some practice when it comes to putting them on and taking them off faster—ang hirap pala talaga!)
Since I have astigmatism, I only wear the ones without vision correction. Both Air Optix Colors and FreshLook Color Contact Lenses are FDA-approved monthly replacement lenses available in at least nine colors, ranging from subtle to vibrant.
Air Optix Colors contacts come in subtle colors of pure hazel, blue, green, grey, and brown, as well as bold hues of brilliant blue, gemstone green, honey, and sterling grey. FreshLook’s color selection includes amethyst, green, pure hazel, brown, gray, and blue for a subtle look; and honey, sterling gray, gemstone green, and brilliant blue for those who want to have striking eyes. FreshLook also offers daily disposable contact lenses (pure hazel, blue, green, and gray) and FreshLook Illuminate (rich brown and jet black) for those who just want to have brighter, bigger eyes.

Do you have any favorite local celebs who love to wear colored contact lenses too? If they happen to be Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes, you’re in luck—you have the chance to meet your fellow colored contacts lovers who are also the new ambassadors of Air Optix Colors and FreshLook on July 10, Sunday, 2PM onwards, at Robinsons Ermita Activity Center.
Freshlook and Air Optix Colors users can gain FREE access to the special event by showing an official receipt with a minimum purchase of two pairs of contact lenses anytime from July 4 to 10 at the registration booth as early as 10AM on July 10. The first 400 to register will get to participate in activities such as free contact lens trials, photo booth, body art, and have a photo opportunity with Kathryn and Julia. Freshlook and Air Optix Colors will also be giving away gifts and prizes during the big event.
